Trick or Trick...

Fall started off well enough, the flora looked great, the fauna magnificent.

We got new mixer taps outside, who would think of hot water outside - well if you have a 130lb dog that needs a bath - you would! These are particularly clever, the little caps on top let air in behind the water so that they always drain and the valves are inside the house so even in the dead of winter they never freeze.

Having provided nearly thirteen years of dedicated service our oven died and was replaced and of course, Judy was lucky enough to find Nurse Heidi to look after her.

Then on October 29th the storm came!

Normally a foot of snow would be no big deal, but unfortunately someone had forgotten to let the rest of nature know, so the trees were still covered with leaves, the result DISASTER. As you can see many of our bushes and trees were trashed (look at how much more we can see of our neighbors house now) and we were without power for 42 hours and yes we were one of the lucky ones - some people were stuck for a week.

Every hotel was either in the same position, or full! The last time snow came this early was 1952. After the hurricane of last month let's hope we are done with weird weather for a while.

Even without power Halloween continued regardless, we had gas for heating and lighting and snow to chill the wine. OK - we also had a small generator, so we were able to put out Halloween lights as well. All in all a freaky experience. Let's hope for Treats next year!
